Minutes are now hours. Heavy users are an emerging group that haven´t stopped growing. According to TV guide, 15% of users watch more than 6 hours of online videos per week. Last year, the rate was only 4%. And 62% of interviewees declared that they watch more online videos than the year before.
Nevertheless, we prefer to stick with Burst Media statistics, which has rates that are much more shocking.
1. Online Video contents are very attractive
There is an outbreak of the use of online video, where there´s a high percentage of people who watch online videos for more than six hours a week. That’s more than 20%. And 3% confesses watching more than 24 hours of online video a week!!
2. Online contents that women and men regularly watch
Online contents that are seen by men and women are quite balanced in terms of comedy, news and music. Nevertheless, the differences are more notable in sports, cartoons, politics, tabloids and reality shows.
3. Online video consumers use different devices and when they watch TV, they surf the internet at the same time.
80.8% of consumers declare that they surf the internet while watching TV. This percentage is broken down into 15.3% which state that they always do it, 33.7% which does it often, 20.5% that does it sometimes and 11.3% that does it occasionally. 49% declares that they are always or often surfing the internet while watching TV. Only 14.3% never surfs while watching TV.
Online video is not the future, it´s the present. And there are no indications that this will stop. Let´s recall the Cisco report which declares that online video will be 2/3rds of Internet traffic in 2015. It is estimated that in 2015, a million minutes of video will cross the internet every second. Online videos gets users hooked the most, and the amount of time users spend on a site are increasing if videos are involved. Advertisers also have a lot to gain.
