Online Video, also for Politics
Social video reaches one of the most rigid, formal, and conservative occupations that are amateurs to innovation: Politics. And yet, online video, is the key communication tool to reaching their audiences.
Social video reaches one of the most rigid, formal, and conservative occupations that are amateurs to innovation: Politics. And yet, online video, is the key communication tool to reaching their audiences.
This can’t be stopped. On the contrary, every time it seems that there are more options, more creativity and… no industry escapes being susceptible. When it comes to communicating, it has to be done with videos. And on the Internet, please. There´s still a year left and the political parties are already starting the race for presidency. Without losing any time. And if not, just go to YouTube´s homepage to find this:
The colors change and …. if we click, we are redirected to Fox News Channel. On September 22, 2011, the candidates will go to the Republican Party Primaries in Orlando, Florida and will answer the questions that people have made through this YouTube channel.
We were stunned. What mostly surprised us is that they don’t segment by IP address, so here, from Spain, we will also see it. Notoriety and visibility. Two months ago, there was a striking initiative posed by innovation. The YouTube Town Hall channel was used as a platform for the members of Congress to debate and discuss major issues. The visitors can select the topic; watch the videos that express the politician’s main ideas and decide what they agree with and what they don’t agree with. But in our opinion, the best thing is not to know which party has the idea but to focus on the message.
We like the idea. And everything indicates that this will be the trend. At the end of the day, it’s about trying to reach the user. And it’s through social networks. Furthermore, if we also take into account the sector, in this case, politics, reading the debates would actually be unbearable. So, online video is the salvation for trying to communicate the plans and solutions of the future. However, one of the first initiatives in this area that I can remember was that of Rania of Jordan. Almost three years ago a Muslim woman and with a desire to change the norms, leaned on YouTube to encourage and overturn certain topics that were prejudicial to the image of the Middle East. She inspired the whole world by allowing users to send her questions about what was true and what wasn’t and she would respond.
Politics, with a traditional image and somewhat anchored in the past, desperately seeks to reach the public, who are less and less responsive to its messages. The creativity and the knowledge of new technologies are key to reaching certain sectors of the population. Obama was well aware of this. In past elections, his team encountered a series of difficulties in reaching audiences between the ages of 18 to 33. And they chose to have a presence in videogames! In short, it’s about interacting (or at least selling the idea of what they are doing) to make the user feel a part of the campaign.
